Building the financial control layer
the AI economy needs.

Mission

The AI economy needs a financial control layer. We're building it.

Every other piece of critical infrastructure — payments, databases, identity — got its own purpose-built financial primitives. AI hasn't. TOLVYN is what the field looks like when every API call is metered, attributed, governed, and provable.

The story

In 2025 the same conversation happened in dozens of companies. Engineering shipped a feature backed by an AI API. The invoice arrived. The CFO asked which team, which customer, which feature drove the spike. Nobody could answer. Engineering pulled logs and screenshots. Finance built a spreadsheet. The audit team flagged the lack of an immutable record. And nothing actually got built to fix the underlying problem — because nobody owned it.

Provider dashboards show your bill. They don't show your teams, services, agents, or customers. SaaS spend tools weren't built for this — a single AI request can cost anywhere from a fraction of a cent to several dollars depending on prompt length, model, and provider pricing change. A meter built for SaaS subscriptions doesn't apply.

TOLVYN is a system of record: the immutable ledger and attribution graph for every AI API call your organization makes. It sits in the request path so it can govern, not just observe. It speaks the language CFOs and auditors recognize — flat fees, cryptographic proof, three-way reconciliation — because that's what's needed for AI to graduate from "experimental" to "operationally critical".

Built in public

All TOLVYN SDKs and CLI are open source under Apache 2.0 at github.com/tolvyn. The AI Cost Index data is published monthly under the same license. Releases, changelog, and substantive design discussions happen in the open on GitHub.

Bootstrapped

TOLVYN is currently bootstrapped. We grow by shipping product and earning customers, not by fundraising. That keeps us aligned with the people actually paying us, and lets us make pricing and roadmap decisions that favor the customer over investor optics. We may raise eventually — when we do, we'll explain why, on the blog, before it happens.
